Doreen's Quilt

The sun was shining too brightly to capture the true colors of Doreen's quilt but I tried anyway. The pattern is Jacob's Ladder and she made it to give to her daughter for Christmas.

While I was taking photos I actually saw a triangular area (the upper left on this picture) that I had neglected to quilt so I had to pin it back onto my canvas leaders on my table so I could quilt it! Oops! I had looked it over (as I always do prior to unpinning it but managed to miss it anyway!) It was easy to spot from the backside!

This is the backside. Doreen was "delivering" the quilt during her Thanksgiving visit and was hoping to talk her daughter into opening it early rather than waiting until Christmas...why not!?!!

A Customer's Quilt

Leslie brought this quilt top to me to be quilted on my longarm machine. I did what I consider doodling...freehand, custom. The batting is Dream Wool which gives it a little poof which makes the playful quilting even more fun. Plus the batting is lighter than cotton which is especially nice for a bed-sized quilt. Here's a close-up or two of the quilting...

The center of the quilt had been marked with pencil for hand-quilting so I decided to quilt on those lines in that area with a bit of improvisation.

How about the backside?! The star blocks shadow through a bit but otherwise it looks like a whole cloth quilt, doesn't it?

I guess you can see why I call it "doodling", can't you?!

Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone is enjoying the 4th of July! We are enjoying a quiet day together so far.
I've been meaning to show you the most recent quilt I did for a customer, Kathie. Her quilt is the Glacier Star, a large 96"x104" paper-pieced top. I had to use my tile floor downstairs to lay it out so I could take photos of the whole quilt.

I took the close-up shots with her quilt draped over my machine-table so that's why this shot looks a bit out of shape along the lavender...believe me, Kathie did a fantastic job piecing this quilt top!

Emily's Quilts

I have two quilts of Emily's to share with you today. They were both completed in 2014. Emily is a very talented quiltmaker and continues to challenge herself as evidenced by this first quilt.

Isn't this beautiful? My quilting was freehand-custom.

It's June 2013!

Hello all! I am finally doing some quilting again after having surgery to repair my meniscus in my left knee. As you can see there is something wrong with my blog...my photos are missing! Long story but I will be doing my best to "restore" them.

In the meantime, I want to share the news of the release of Amanda Murphy's book, "Modern Holiday" with you. I had the honor of quilting the large quilts for Amanda so I thought I'd share a couple of photos of these as well. Amanda's quilts are so much fun to quilt! It is so exciting to see her designs and fabric choices and then it's up to me to add the quilting!

November Update

I am currently taking a break in quilting (and nearly everything else) while my left knee heals. I have a medial meniscus tear which is improving with bed rest and I am trying not to go out of my mind with boredom. I just keep telling myself that if I don't follow my doctor's orders my knee won't have a chance to heal. So I am reading and waiting...I hope you will visit my blog at a later time when I am back to "normal" and posting quilt photos again!

Mary's Lap Quilts

Mary has a very lucky family as she made seven beautiful black, white, and red lap quilts to gift her loved ones this winter. She has given me permission to show them to you. I know who family will love them!

 They were each quilted with a different pantograph pattern in either red, white, or black thread.
