I liked the combination of curves and points and the fact that the pattern interlocks closely. The batting is Dream Wool by Quilters Dream Batting. I choose "Camel" Signature Cotton Thread which looks great on both the top and the back.<br />

The batting is Quilters Dream Wool which really worked very nicely. It is so lightweight, yet slightly lofty. Kathie and I discussed how much we appreciate this batting especially in a large bed quilt but it also makes a comfy lap quilt. Kathie did a beautiful job!<br />

My customer, Shirley, brought this beautiful quilt top to me to quilt and left it up to me to decide what to quilt where. I had a lot of fun doing it!<br />
<br />
This view on the right shows the appliqued corn stock and the crow on the left border.<br />
<br />
This view below shows the rest of the quilt. It just doesn't fit completely on my queen bed but the lighting in that room is better than in the room with the king bed. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Shirley did a fantastic job with this top...lots of hand-applique, some machine-applique, as well as pieced blocks. Her choice of blocks and the layout is wonderful. I had fun freehand quilting it. I quilted corn stalks on each side of the appliqued cornstalk but couldn't get it all in one photo so I will show you a portion of it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I like to do a variety of quilting in the different blocks and sometimes the subject of the block dictates what I should do as in this block....<br />

The sun was shining too brightly to capture the true colors of Doreen's quilt but I tried anyway. The pattern is Jacob's Ladder and she made it to give to her daughter for Christmas.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoLI6zeI64EcccSU7dL0fpASmptq9Qd3qOt2nPxzTfj0rSC70vNOQ1_1Nfwj8TsFMPgeHCl1SAzFAZdsYvxzg6QYlsgCFz-65Mvu31wbIE1QwIbGWl2GOPTrKnPqX-tGmXngEL5rpJzO5j/s1600/IMG_8248.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoLI6zeI64EcccSU7dL0fpASmptq9Qd3qOt2nPxzTfj0rSC70vNOQ1_1Nfwj8TsFMPgeHCl1SAzFAZdsYvxzg6QYlsgCFz-65Mvu31wbIE1QwIbGWl2GOPTrKnPqX-tGmXngEL5rpJzO5j/s1600/IMG_8248.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
While I was taking photos I actually saw a triangular area (the upper left on this picture) that I had neglected to quilt so I had to pin it back onto my canvas leaders on my table so I could quilt it! Oops! I had looked it over (as I always do prior to unpinning it but managed to miss it anyway!) It was easy to spot from the backside!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhumxg5xOF1GbRdTV1PzHRRlBDqqfskAeA1ZxDoc333U-3k6Sg6-4bu-wX5gvGA127DGGws9PC2FaJohus1-fD7h6_oJajHRu09soED5rQSq1Ko04Qm30wUKf_E92Kp42vk1EHwyJIst7ar/s1600/IMG_8250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhumxg5xOF1GbRdTV1PzHRRlBDqqfskAeA1ZxDoc333U-3k6Sg6-4bu-wX5gvGA127DGGws9PC2FaJohus1-fD7h6_oJajHRu09soED5rQSq1Ko04Qm30wUKf_E92Kp42vk1EHwyJIst7ar/s1600/IMG_8250.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the backside. Doreen was "delivering" the quilt during her Thanksgiving visit and was hoping to talk her daughter into opening it early rather than waiting until Christmas...why not!?!!<br />

Leslie brought this quilt top to me to be quilted on my longarm machine. I did what I consider doodling...freehand, custom. The batting is Dream Wool which gives it a little poof which makes the playful quilting even more fun. Plus the batting is lighter than cotton which is especially nice for a bed-sized quilt. Here's a close-up or two of the quilting...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBfBw8D9v9zm69jZRh9ORSYHgXMIINJAAbD9Q5fLm-h_tW3CnEIB-RzLcIAY5lG1Z18TWuMT7vC3vE_TUDosdu05GpKfs2OQovdObmhDSzmzf-oP-RLcQx5hZWGpwOeYHtZm9yBM0Xxf2W/s1600/IMG_8282.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBfBw8D9v9zm69jZRh9ORSYHgXMIINJAAbD9Q5fLm-h_tW3CnEIB-RzLcIAY5lG1Z18TWuMT7vC3vE_TUDosdu05GpKfs2OQovdObmhDSzmzf-oP-RLcQx5hZWGpwOeYHtZm9yBM0Xxf2W/s1600/IMG_8282.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The center of the quilt had been marked with pencil for hand-quilting so I decided to quilt on those lines in that area with a bit of improvisation.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvTIBZmCtUSdMu2ExSJa3RbhNfGIVgq3HefAc0dfDNIqtBUV8BTnXFc0q6NChxeYCf3gfMZNt3DIbjgAnbMA-JDgZHE_MxIwS9NiiihjxF3sQKZWod1jJ2CkhUHq71l2_xEAyfjO7HYIbv/s1600/IMG_8276.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvTIBZmCtUSdMu2ExSJa3RbhNfGIVgq3HefAc0dfDNIqtBUV8BTnXFc0q6NChxeYCf3gfMZNt3DIbjgAnbMA-JDgZHE_MxIwS9NiiihjxF3sQKZWod1jJ2CkhUHq71l2_xEAyfjO7HYIbv/s1600/IMG_8276.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
How about the backside?! The star blocks shadow through a bit but otherwise it looks like a whole cloth quilt, doesn't it?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LNrfFcVoRTWXDsucQIX5StmiW4sMcO679vLDnNeQnYo74siuIlD5Wpud2vZAYt2-iUZJ_PWxqleZzn4oPjo2CDwY6V1odIDEH-IE_ZTXJaRBGbwqZWR_ty0O8a3sLW5AzZhW9REWSDJu/s1600/IMG_8277.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LNrfFcVoRTWXDsucQIX5StmiW4sMcO679vLDnNeQnYo74siuIlD5Wpud2vZAYt2-iUZJ_PWxqleZzn4oPjo2CDwY6V1odIDEH-IE_ZTXJaRBGbwqZWR_ty0O8a3sLW5AzZhW9REWSDJu/s1600/IMG_8277.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I guess you can see why I call it "doodling", can't you?!<br />
<br />
I have another quilt or two to show you so check back tomorrow again!<br />

We are enjoying a quiet day together so far.<br />
I've been meaning to show you the most recent quilt I did for a customer, Kathie. Her quilt is the Glacier Star, a large 96"x104" paper-pieced top. I had to use my tile floor downstairs to lay it out so I could take photos of the whole quilt.<br />

I am finally doing some quilting again after having surgery to repair my meniscus in my left knee. As you can see there is something wrong with my blog...my photos are missing! Long story but I will be doing my best to "restore" them.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I want to share the news of the release of Amanda Murphy's book, "Modern Holiday" with you. I had the honor of quilting the large quilts for Amanda so I thought I'd share a couple of photos of these as well. Amanda's contact information is on the sidebar and I hope you'll check it out and get your very own copy of her book! I know you'll love it!<br />
<br />

Isn't is beautiful? Just wait until you see inside...go to Amanda's website....<br />
<br />
My photos of the quilts are just snapshots after I've taken them off my machine so they aren't the best but it will give you a sneak preview.<br />

Amanda's quilts are so much fun to quilt! It is so exciting to see her designs and fabric choices and then it's up to me to add the quilting!<br />

I have a medial meniscus tear which is improving with bed rest and I am trying not to go out of my mind with boredom. I just keep telling myself that if I don't follow my doctor's orders my knee won't have a chance to heal. So I am reading and waiting...I hope you will visit my blog at a later time when I am back to "normal" and posting quilt photos again!<br />
